From the gorgeous 1920’s old California style décor, to the breathtaking ocean views and sunsets, 41 Ocean Restaurant offers the quintessential California dining experience.

The menu of renowned Chef Jimmy Martinez features classic California cuisine – the true essence of using only the freshest locally sourced, organic, and seasonal ingredients. The menu features an extensive raw bar, delectable fresh salads, and only the finest cuts of seafood and meats grilled in a cheery open kitchen.

In addition to an extensive selection of California and International wines, 41 Ocean’s vintage cocktail bar is the ideal spot to savor a delicious crafted cocktail prepared by our expert mixologists.

Located at 1541 Ocean Avenue, directly across from the Santa Monica Pier, we are open to the Public for Lunch and Dinner service daily. Reservations are recommended, and both Valet and public parking are available.

Member Club

Tucked away in the rear courtyard of one of Santa Monica’s most talked about areas, 1541 Ocean Avenue, a private Members Club is the talk of the town. Developed by Jeremy Umland, 41 Ocean Club wishes to share with its members a celebration of California lifestyle and pride in its heritage, and aims to provide an intimate environment for like-minded individuals on the Westside – a true California Club.

Matt Winter’s sensational design of the Club transports members back to the golden era of Old Hollywood with vintage furniture and fixtures, plastered walls, wood-beamed ceilings and archways. In the secluded courtyard, where fireplaces, ivy and canopies create a relaxed and festive atmosphere, are both tables and sofas for outdoor dining and late night lounging.

To realize our vision of a renowned culinary and entertainment mecca on the Westside, we’ve designed menus that will delight our members - from those with sophisticated palettes to members who desire pure comfort in their meals. Our beverage program also shows tremendous creativity in terms of both ingredients used as well as techniques and presentation.

41 Ocean has set the stage for live entertainment by outfitting a raised dining area with a 1910 upright Weser piano and a state-of-the-art sound and lighting system. You can expect great live performances by top talents – including some of our own members - and late night DJs.

Meet Our
Executive Chef

Chef Jimmy Martinez joined 41 Ocean as Executive Chef in May, 2013.

Chef Martinez brings over a dozen years experience working at the most celebrated steakhouses in Southern California, although his passion is working with fresh fish and seasonal ingredients to create unique masterpieces extemporaneously.

Chef Martinez’s love of cooking began when he participated in a truffle tasting with world-renowned Chef Jean Georges Vongerichten at only 13-years old. At the age of 18, he attended Le Cordon Bleu, where he was able to fulfill his passion for the culinary arts by working closely with instructors.

After graduation, Chef Martinez went on to work at the Academy Awards®, where Wolfgang Puck took notice of his talents. After much encouragement from Chef Puck, Chef Martinez joined Spago to run the fish station at only 19-years old. Following his two-year tenure at Spago, he traveled to Aspen, Colorado to work as a sous chef in the famed Pine Creek Cookhouse. After a car accident that left him injured, and the Executive Chef unable to work, Chef Martinez stepped into the role of Executive Chef at only 21 years old.

After one season in Aspen, Chef Martinez returned to Southern California to work at Dolce, an Italian restaurant in Balboa. Three years later, he joined Mastro’s Steakhouse where he solidified his knowledge of steakhouse menu development and kitchen management. He soon returned to Dolce, which he turned into the first Italian Steakhouse in Orange County.

From Dolce, Chef Martinez was recruited to work at Delphine at the W Hotel Hollywood. The management recognized his talent immediately, and hired him to be the Executive Chef of Boa Steakhouse in Santa Monica. During his three year tenure, he not only streamlined the kitchen operations, but delighted guests with his freshly prepared nightly specials that included farmers market produce and fresh fish.

Chef Martinez is most fulfilled when he has the latitude to create delicious dishes based on the freshest ingredients available. He is dedicated to delivering consistently fresh, innovative, palette pleasing dishes that will elevate guests’ dining experience.

Santa Monica’s 41 Ocean restaurant—it's attached to the exclusive 41 Ocean Club—is shifting gears under new chef Jimmy Martinez. The menu is now full of Latin-inspired tastes of California, with touches of Spain and Puerto Rico, where the chef’s family originates.

Martinez is a natural in the kitchen, and was asked to work alongside Wolfgang Puck at Spago. He was only 19 when he was working the fish station under Puck. Though only in his early 30s, Martinez is a veteran chef with over a dozen years under his apron including stints at Mastro’s Steakhouse and the nearby Boa Steakhouse in Santa Monica. It's safe to say he knows a thing or two about volume.

Escape the Standard at 41 Ocean

Up until now Tinseltown's elite had to venture to the Soho House in West Hollywood to escape the normal people of Los Angeles. Thankfully, the Westside was willing to give these high-end peeps a place to rendezvous a little closer to the water at 41 Ocean. This buzzed-about, members-only club only recently opened and is already receiving a bevy of membership apps from the hottest names in Hollywood.

An annual membership to this swanky establishment will set you back about two grand — unless you’re under 30, then your annual fee is $1,250. What will this hefty chunk of change get you besides bragging rights? The secluded restaurant’s decor will whisk its guests back to old Hollywood. You’ll dine under wood beam ceilings and sip cocktails in the quaint courtyard next to warm fireplaces.

She quotes Kant, and other deep reasons to join 41 Ocean

"I always feel like I’m in the Riviera when I'm here," Polish-born actress Dominika Juillet tells me. The tall blonde is full of such quotable material so with some reluctance I set down my martini and pull out my pen and notebook.

I'm at 41 Ocean to get the inside scoop on this new private club a stone's throw from the Santa Monica Pier. Juillet is a member and here this evening for a photo shoot, which goes some way in explaining the stunning designer dress (a Lorena Sarbu).

"I want to go to a place where I actually want to talk to people," she tells me. She quotes Kant. I ask her if I heard her right. Yes, Immanuel Kant. Before the night is over, we two philosophy graduates will engage in an invigorating discussion of Kantian ethics, fueled on my end by the Hendrick’s martinis that Lauren keeps shaking at the bar. The New York-transplant bartender and I have developed an instant rapport, and no sooner do I smile and nod than her hand reaches for the ever-lighter dark brown cylinder.
